That the amount of profit they yield works in reverse order. as in merchants make the MOST while the ppl who create the actual currency to be used make the LEAST. so they are in no way bottom feeders. and "digger through the trash". they are infact the richest group of people in ms. and you know it so dont make them seem less than they are. (i figure you are one)
And
Buy something because they want and need it. I dont know about you, but to me MS is a game. As it being a game there are aspects i liek and ones i dont. I DONT like FM. why i dont like it? merchants if u havent guessed already. that and its a waste of time. so ive gotten used to it and instead of doing what you talk about. and be patient and buy when its a fair price would make the game less fun for me. SO what do i do? I get my meso's by being a supplier and creater as i mented before. and when i find an item i like i buy it. Sure if ive seen cheaper ones before i might look around. But if its like say a weapon i really want. and i mean ive been thinking about getting this item. and i have the mesos for it and i see it in fm for liek 500mil. but all the prices ive heard about are liek 300mil. ill most likely still get it. why because i can afford it. there are no bills in MS. no minimum amount of mesos needed to be in ur account. so why save them?
i only did some merchanting a long time ago, before mushie shops. i stopped wasting all my time looking through fm. i dont know why you hate merchants so much, but your hate is blinding you to the real problems and this isnt going anywhere.
also, try being less whimsical. its tempting, but youll get farther without impulse buying. friendly advice.

If you buy the 500m one, the sellers with the 300m ones will see that they can sell their stuff for 500m, so why would they sell it for 300m? And then people who come after you will be forced to pay 500m, and the cycle continues with the item getting more and more expensive.
I'm not really sure about what I'm saying, I'm no expert in this field, but it's not necessarily greed that causes inflation, in Maple, I mean, it's more likely impatience. It's not about saving mesos and hoarding them, it's about waiting with your mesos. If more items sold for less, the price will begin to drop, slowly but surely, as people undercut each other to make a sale, and inversely, if more of these items sold for more, then people are more likely try to sell for an increased price and be a bit more patient. If you just go out and buy whatever you want, for whatever price, that's gonna have a pretty big effect on the price of the item.
U just described greed. i understand how it goes up and up but that is ONLY because one mapler wants to have more money than another... and the way is spirals down into deflation is for the same reason. They speculate that the price will go down further so they (the merchants) sell for cheaper. In order to make more money than their peers. Yes i am indirectly causing inflation but peoples greed to be better than someone else drives it far far more that i ever could.
Same thing can be said for when someone sells an item for cheap (which i ALWAYS ALWAYS DO) causing deflation. Why do i do it? because i want to ruin the market? no, simply because i don't like FM as i feel its a waste of my time so i want to get in and get out quickly.
I do understand the imporance of being impatience. And how that Can earn you and save you mesos. But maybe you should understand that time =/= money, but that TIME> money. and that's why I try and use as little time as imposable on money as the main point in earning it is to spend it when in need.

Well i hate merchant cuz all they do is make it hard to find items they want to USE cheaply. And I cant really go "farther" in the sense you're thinking because im not all about upgrading and damage. I am a little now because of recent events leading me to be below my standard level of damage but I'm not like "I NEED DAMAGE TO SOLO HT!!!" Not trying to shun those who do but that's not fun for me. But the semi impulse buying is kinda fun. not entirely or i would of bough an andriod + heart recipe by now... lol.
And your right this isn't going anywhere but what do you mean by "blinding you to the real problems"?
Well what are the real problems you are speaking of?

Okay after looking over other posts then combined with my own ideas how about this.
Step 1. Remove all mesos from the game removing meso drops from monsters also then temporary give all items an npc price of 0.
Step 2. Introduce short quests for new characters (things that can be done in 10mins with almost no potions required), These quests will give potion ration cards which allows you to buy 500k worth of potions. (potions bought with this card become untradable to prevent abuse)
Step 3. Introduce "Bounty Quests". A series of repeatable / daily limited quests based on level which basically require the player to hunt a special boss which unlike regular bosses can only be seen by the player who accepted the quest (or those in the same party) also involves the player to search hidden maps with consist of jump quests and puzzles to enter. (making it more fun, or at least trying) The bosses attack power and HP also altered based on your level to make it a challenge. The quest will give high amounts of mesos based on difficulty/level something like 1m to 10m (note- keeping the mesos supply low to slow down inflation)
Step 4. Raise Trade Taxes dramatically. (basically to slow down inflation) then introduce a series of meso sinks. Such as NPC cubing service, most scrolls from npcs (i.e 60%/10%) Also things like pay an NPC 500m for a 50% chance to increase an items potential rank or mount upgrades? I dont know im too tired to think up more but that pretty much gives my idea lol.
Althrough this would never happen... lol.

You're not indirectly causing inflation, it's happening as a direct result of your purchase (keep in mind, I'm not blaming you specifically, but it's just easier to use the pronoun you). People don't raise prices unless they think there's a chance it could actually sell for that much. If they see an item they're trying to sell sold for a higher price, they're going to raise the price because they see that it is possible to sell for that much. It's not greed, they're not being unreasonable with their prices to make more money, they know they can sell it for that much and people will buy it because of the precedent you started when you bought that overpriced item. When an item is bought for more than it's usually worth, "overpriced", then it's stops being overpriced and more items like that will gravitate toward the same price. You are as much as fault as the merchants you hate.

Anyway, so the problem with removing meso drops entirely is that new players won't be able to afford pots and equips right? So, in addition from removing meso drops, why not also increase the drop rate of potions, and make them drop in bigger stacks, and equips again, and cut their NPC values accordingly?

so basically:
- all mobs dont drop mesos
- all mobs drops tons of potions
- all mobs drop equips with higher rate
what i would like to add is:
- all potion npc'ed at 0 mesos
- all equips npc'ed at 0 mesos
- quest should give more mesos
this way no botters can make mesos off mobs

Potions already have a pretty fast drop rate, I trained my hunter a week or so ago and barely had to use money in my storage to repot cause of the potion drops, as for equips dropping from monsters they just become something that could be botted and abused if the npc value remained. Hopefully encouraging players to trade their finds with others instead of feeding it to an npc.

I like it. But, what if you need to take a cab, or one of the paid ships and you don't have mesos on you? You can't just go out of town real quick and kill a few mobs to get some mesos, though I guess you can't do that now, depending on your level. Free transportation as well?
There's no way I can see that mesos will be able to enter the market with this set up, so most of the mesos will be going from player to player, and scrolling should be a big meso sink in that case.
Hmm... What about Pickpocket?

but cabs are only 50 mesos for begginers and 1000 mesos after job adv lol, if quests gave mesos they should have enough to start

Players with pomegranateloads of meso would be completely pineappleed up. Players with a lot of items - dupers - would become super-godly-rich-plus. NX whores could still buy stuff via MTS - from the dupers, of course.
Removing any amount of meso from the game is not going to help. Dupers would just use their infinite scroll supply as currency or sell them at MTS and dominate the dead market.
We need an effective meso sink (fusing revamp + decently priced NPC equipment would be good) + a market system revamp, something that reduces the impact of greedy merchants. Selling items in MapleStory without NX shops is so boring that it's easy to convince people to sell their stuff at very, very low prices. On the other hand, searching for specific items on FM can get so tiring that after several shops people are just going to buy the item their looking at any price they find it.

easy cure: give us free searching of fm shops, or atleast let us pay mesos to "rent" spots for x amount of hours

Well i would say remove all items too but im pretty sure everyone (including myself) would rage quit. The only thing you can do against dupers is hope they finally get banned as for players with lots of meso, I'm sure they liquidated a lot of their meso into items or even NX so they will still retain their wealthy status. And the title of the thread is to stop inflation so i offered an idea which would cause a massive deflation with a method to control the inflation.
There's no way to effectively combat inflation without someone getting fucked over..

An meso version of MTS would be nice. Or just copy paste a buy/selling/trading system idea from another MMORPG and pretend it's a completely original idea
Durex Wrote:There's no way to effectively combat inflation without someone getting fucked over..
Create multiple effective meso sinks for people who have a lot of mesos, but at the same time doesn't completely destroy players with a lot of items; a 60% Scroll selling NPC for example. The NPC would also buy 60% scrolls at a decent prices, so people with a lot of 60% scrolls wouldn't be screwed (dupers would be a BIG problem here). An alternative would be making the NPC scrolls cursed or give it a lower %, so the original 60% scrolls would still have some decent value.
What we can't do is FORCE people to lose mesos or items. We got to give maplers somewhere to spend those meso or sell those items, and it got to be actually useful.

you hate that someone would want to hang out in fm all day to get good deals, so you hate them out of jealousy when they arent a problem, and you love that someone would want to generally ruin the game for everyone in order to provide you with a reasonable deal. hence, blind to the real problems.

except for its less of looking for a good deal and more of looking to rip someone off. Like offering 10mil for a GFA. you KNOW they are like 19mil. good deal is the like 16 or 15mil. and you PUSH that to an even lower value. But idk why you think im jealous of them. I did try it out like once when i was jealous to VERY soon reliase how much a pain in the ass it was and then i was nolong jealous? and why should i BE. SURE they have liek 10bil mesos. But I myself would MUCH rather have 10k mesos and all the equips i want than 10bil and still needing equips.
But i dont think you understand the benefit of botters. Lets take for example reverse weapons. they require Piece of time which comes from ToT. Ever since Von Leon came out barely anyone was at ToT which was about a year ago. and to this day barely anyone is. So its SAFE to assume that anyone that made a reverse item in the past year got at least 1 Piece of time for those shops in fm selling 200 or 300 PoT for 1mil each. this is alot of people that benefit from these illegit people. Sure their method's are wrong but im postive that 99% of the communite is GLAD for their service. Same can be said about Dream fragments(honnestly getting 200 legitly would take like 2000 hours (1 every 10 hours. and no I'm not exaggerating). Im not sure if u know but reverse weapons are like the stable weapon of a 4th job char. expecilly if non funded. Because of their decent attack with just 60%s as well as their relative cheapness to make. Many Many new mapler would have a tough time playing into high levels without them because the prices of legitly earn items are just to high (partily caused by merchants(see their negativeness)).
Not to go hating on merchants too much but the ONLY ONLY reason why NX rates went from liek 1:20 to like 1:40~100 is because of merchants. and you in no way can deny this.
But i do agree that at the end point botters are bad. But right now its
Bad(botters)*Bad(Ms imbalance supply drop rate)= Good(Stable, though a bit too expensive, market)

i dont understand why people still want to make reverse gear. do they not realize the investment is lost once it wears out its usefulness? untradable sucks hard. youll eventually want to upgrade.
and actually, nx rates are where they are because of meso selling sites. botters dictate the price of mesos, and that filters down to slightly more expensive nx rates because the source is more trustworthy.

Not sure if this was mentioned yet, but another idea for a good meso sink would be a mount merchant. I, for one, would love to collect mounts! I would spend all of my money on them, and I do mean all of it. If they made a bunch of NPCs that would actually walk from map to map in each region of the world, and make them all sell random mounts each day and have them all cost prices ranging from 1-100million mesos depending on how good the mount was, I would be a very happy mapler. They could even make a special Hammerspace Mount Sack that could be sold by the NPCs, and have better sacks cost more money.

Except i vaguely remember nx rates jumping from 1:15/1:20mil to 1:40mil in mardia like... overnight with the discovery of lol 10att Wgs in Mts. But to answer your question abour reverse gear. NOT EVERYONE is a rich mofo. the damage you can gain from just a reverse weapon costing like 80mil to make and scroll is about the same as buying a lvl 100 weapon/110 for 300mil. Though making one WOULD be cheaper than buying as long as you made your weapon within the first try; reverse would still be cheaper overall. None refundable yes, but i'll get you to the point of where u can actually making that kind of mesos in the first place. And as for other equips they can do it either for the potenial (reverse is the cheapest glove for SE) or for looks (like i did. But i relized that was a stupid idea but meh. i was happy for a LONG TIME).
A little tip for gaming is: less stress = more fun.
