*Sigh* Arizona...

I'm hoping it's happylight's, but it could be mine.

Yes that is the way insurance works. But a line has to be drawn somewhere. Health insurance would not cover my vitamins, or diet pills, or Viagra, or cigarettes.

Planned Parenthood does.

Exactly. If you got pregnant while you didn't plan to have kids, then you have only yourself to blame.

Raul Wrote:I'm not sure if you understand insurance. You need an actual reason to get something. Besides, insurance doesn't pay for all of it, only some of it (in most cases).

That's what I've been saying. You need a medical reason for getting insurance to pay for birth control. If you only want birth control to prevent from getting pregnant then insurance shouldn't pay for it.

Raul Wrote:There are thousands of things covered by health insurance that are not life-or-death deciders. Maybe you'd like contacts to be 10x more expensive, or prescription allergy medicine to be worth its weight in gold.

SaptaZapta Wrote:I suppose you don't think insurance should cover pain medication, either? It doesn't save lives, just makes them more comfortable. If you're not man enough to grit your teeth and suffer your pain, pay for your own meds?

I meant medical reasons, not just life-or-death. It's okay for insurance to cover someone's pain meds if they're in pain. It shouldn't be covered if they're using pain meds to get high.

SaptaZapta Wrote:Even the law's proponents don't talk about costs. They talk about religion. So I guess employers who are Christian Scientists and believe in no medical intervention with the will of God at all, they needn't give their employees any medical coverage whatsoever.

That is because their religion doesn't believe in using birth control. So why should they pay for the cost of someone else's using birth control? Employers do not have to offer health insurance to their employees if they don't want to. It's a perk that is part of being employed like parking space.
