Acceptance of illegal downloading

Hello Southperry,

I am currently doing research for a term paper on how the acceptance of piracy relating to music files has changed the music culture and the music industry. This is for an IT class of mine called Social Informatics, which is largely just a discussion based class, where we read articles and discuss how technology is affecting society, and vice versa. As part of the project we are required to survey people from an online source, whether it is Facebook, emails, or a forum. I have chosen to first use forums for this project, because I believe the members of the forums I participate in are very savvy to technology, and the issues surrounding many things in the online world, such as illegal downloads.

NOTE: In this survey I will take down no personal information from you other than your age which is necessary to the study. I will not even take down your username, and will probably not even mention these results as having come from this forum.

If so then when did you start downloading music illegally? And how? (napster, limewire, various other ways)? Uh s'hit i didn't start actually listening to music that would be illegally obtained until high school

How many albums or songs are you downloading illegally, on average, per month? On average? Probably like 4 at most, on a good month. Haven't gotten new music since the beginning of the year except for some new releases.

How many albums or songs are you buying, and if so why do you choose to buy them when you can simply download them for free? Don't

Roughly how many different artists are featured in your collection, how many different genres? 94 artists, 57 genres according to iTunes but god knows that isn't accurate

How acceptable is piracy to you? Entirely

Why do you believe piracy is not seen as stealing by many people?Because stealing usually entails something physical being taken, while music is something performed later published on public domain

Do you think piracy has, in anyway, changed the music industry for the better? For the better? Probably not. Producers and companies and whatnot still make money. Music being pirated is simply a consequence of a dying industry due to technological advancement. Can't be helped really
