Only thing is it doesn't go backwards, so it basically scans a semi circle around the first monster and goes to the next. It may appear to go backward when you cast it and a monster it has targeted moves closer to you, making it seem to go backwards. If you keep using it you'll eventually be able to see what can be hit and what can't.
