Look for a certain theme or Archetypes

Look for cards you like in the theme, make a deck work well.

You want cards that build up advantage.
Chain an MST to an opponents card that targets the mst, destroy another spell/trap. You killed two birds with one stone, +1.
It's because of advantage that pot of greed will always be banned lolol.
It's also why cards like hyper librarian will be banned, it generates extreme advantage. I literally drew to around 18 cards left in my deck on the second turn, and i get close to that often.
I could've drawn more but I had the one turn kill anyways ...

Certain cards are one for ones, like a blind mst, or pot of duality. But pot of duality lets you look at the top THREE cards and pick one you like, it gives big advantage, but its a balanced advantage.
Building lots of advantage gives you an edge over your opponent, if you lose your advantage, you get put into a tough spot.
Unless you destroy at least two monsters with something like lightning vortex, you minus yourself and you lose advantage. (discard 1 card (-1) + lose 1 card in your hand (-1) = -2 + Destroy 1 monster (+1) etc

Pot of Duality : Lose 1 card in hand (-1) + add 1 card outside of field to hand (+1) = 0

Pot of Greed: Lose 1 card in hand (-1) + draw 2 cards (+2) = +1
Hyper Librarian: Lose two monsters (-2) + gain 1 monster (+1) + Synchro summon (+1) = 0 Synchroing more just gives you more and more.

There is no 'room' but you can find the matches themselves, me and dre are playing soon so just look for the "Unleashing" duel under traditional.
Edit: We also mostly tag it with "SP"

only way to fix that, is practice. and don't worry, synchros are easy to grasp, here, this should help explain them:
