The pros and cons of private servers
#21
I personally want to have a private server to play all on my own to try things with. real private servers tend to have asshats in charge who don't know what they're doing and nothing gets done.

i played FMS, and it was pretty fun. Not having to spend money on something is rather nice, and i mostly used it to test classes out. When i couldnt even level a bowman on 20x exp, i figured i better not waste time making one on GMS. I did enjoy my Hero no FMS, but i also realized that the grinding wasnt really worth it on GMS to have one.

So, what i learned from FMS is that F/P and NL are my classes. I guess i didnt so much learn it, it just re-enforced it.

I played one for a short while. It was fun.. ish. It got boring, though. But, a few good points about it:

-I was able to try out classes that I haven't tried in GMS, got them to 4th job, and realize that I really didn't enjoy them all THAT much. As much as I had hoped for, which thankfully stopped me from leveling up another character up there only to find out that I didn't care for it as much as another class, or more.

-Mass scrolling. Being a poor S.O.B. in GMS, I was able to buy any scroll, and just get all that scrolling frustration and curiosity out of my system. It was like a virtual stress ball. I could blow up anything I wanted, white scroll anything I wanted, and scroll my warrior items with int, just to get it out of my system.

-Bossing with no worries. Even before I got to the "ridiculous" point in that server, I would take on bosses that I normally would be scared to (to lose exp) or just for the hell of it because I could finally do so (Showa bosses, zak, etc.). And even when it got to the ridiculous part, it was fun to say to myself "Man, I just killed _____ in 5 hits, when it would take me 5 hours in GMS" just to, ya know?

As for negative points... I can't really think of any. The only ones I could see would be:

-Downloading an extra full version of Maple, which takes like, 8 hours on my connection. >_<

-The one I played had a few glitched skills, the one that irked me the most was that divine charge showed damage, but didn't deal the shown damage to a mob. As well as me contacting GMs about it on a number of occasions, and them being apathetic about the whole situation.

I mean, other than that, it was a great experience. I was able to walk away from it with the realization that the class that I stuck with for so long, was the only job that I liked the most. =x
