Also, why cant I see the censored google logo when I go to google.com
@above
It makes sense its only for English version, this way most other countries won't be affected by it. Though I often check english wikipedia for more in-depth articles.
That's besides the point. A large amount of people that visit Wikipedia won't even know what java-script is, much less disable it to get around the black out. Even if they did, the point is to get the message out there, which it does. Besides, chances are that people are going to run into a blacked out site today at some point. At least half the sites I visit have some sort of a black out, whether it's full on or just a blacked out banner of some sort.

This was done on purpose, if you click on 'Learn more' on the blackout page it leads you to a page with a bit more information on the blackout and it shows the following somewhere down there;

It's even more sad that if SOPA/PIPA pass, these people are going to be peaching and moaning even MORE than they are now because these sites will be gone forever, not just for a day or less.
Rather funny seeing how many people are complaining about Wikipedia being down just because they can't do their homework/projects. I guess these people never heard of a library, or better yet other sites that give the information.

Obama doesn't veto it because he's approves of this, he's hates the internet...Obama is similar to Santorum about public life and such. They're both lunatics.

In days like these, not everyone has transportation or lives close to one. It's no longer the 80s and 90s bro.

Protip (that applies to college students): There is such a thing as college library databases that can be accessed online. Or better yet... if you're actually dorming in college, an actual library you can walk to. xd
Back on topic, @herpderpedia is entertaining my day. I love the freakouts. xD

LOOLLL obama hates the internet? Get the fu`ck out that is outright retarded. One of the main reasons he was elected into office was because he was familiar with technology and encouraged it unlike most of the politicians who feel like it's a nuisance rather than a tool.

Oh god, the stupid is so strong in most of these comments, yet it's strangely entertaining at the same time to read all these whining comments. *grabs popcorn*

I'm interested into knowing Ron Paul's stance on SOPA.

I'm sorry, but I just get so pissed at how the MPAA and SOPA supporters are saying that Wikipedia and Reddit are "abusing" their power by initiating a Blackout. Fuck them. The entire problem with SOPA is how it extremely vague it is and how it would just get abused by them. They think we're idiots. There's been nothing like this before, it's the first time that I can think the internet has gotten together in this scale to do something.

He would be against SOPA/PIPA as it moves against libertarianism.

I have the gut feeling that the people behind SOPA actually wants control of the internet and just uses piracy as a front-cover. People ARE being supportive towards anti-piracy (and anti-idiocy at the same time), yet they press on passing the stupid bills and make us out to be pro-theft anyway.

Exactly. I'm all for supporting a GOOD S.O.P.A.. Piracy is bad, and I completely support people trying to protect their intellectual property. In it's current state, it's absolutely trash and does nothing, because it can be completely circumvented. The current version can only hurt, and do nothing else.

In some related but also a bit unrelated news, Mexico and several other latin-american countries have officially showed their own SOPA bills during this past week. I have to admit it was faster than I had expected. US, stop the SOPA bill so that we don't need to pass through this all over again. Thanks.

I'm more of the opinion that congressman Smith is more likely to be a "well-minded" idiot than evil political mastermind.
Wikipedia Wrote:Smith is the author of the Stop Online Piracy Act, better known as "SOPA", a controversial[26][27] law against copyright infringement and other illegal activities on the Internet. In January 2012, it was determined that Smith's own website had used copyright infringing materials,[28][29] described as "hypocritical" by Forbes.[30]

Yup, Mexico's is called " La Ley de Döring". It's the same as SOPA, but stupider.
Here's what I think is the reason behind SOPA, why it's so ambiguous and seems to give most of the power to big companies.
Before the internet, if you wanted to transmit something to a large crowd you would have to pay up and broadcast it, be it through radio or television. But now that the internet exists all you really need is a connection to the internet to transmit an idea, it's getting easier every day thanks to sites that allow users to upload content such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc. These tools have sorta given us equal footing with even the largest of companies, and I don't think they like that because it's easier to know what's going on, it's easier to inform the masses about something, easier to obtain a group of fans by showcasing a talent, etc.
I lost my train of though. : \

I'm surprised on how well Google Translate translates Spanish, I'm so used to seeing broken Korean to English translations.
