wtp? How are you guys so lucky? I open like 10 each day and at best get an accessory atk scroll. I want the AEEs and 100% potential. Hell I'd even take the personality items D:

Out of 24 boxes:

3 Acc Matk scrolls
2 1h weapon Matk scrolls
1 AEE
3 Trait items

That's 6 premiums isn't it? 12 boxes left, can I keep these until tomorrow? >_>

Not sure if serious...

You're guaranteed the same untradeable AEE and 100% Potential scrolls just by doing the Knights of Virtue quest on a character for 9 days.

Meanwhile, accessory attack scrolls will allow you to do fancy things like get attack on the new Kenta Goggles.
You know, those 3rd Tier Potential eye accessories?

Look, I know this "theory" is very easy to believe, but there's something you have to understand here.

If we were to say you can get AT MOST 5 (or any specific number) of "premium" items from the box per any specific time period, it would have to work this way:

1) Open box
2) Get good item
3) Some sort of counter is updated in the database specific to your character.
4) On the next box opened, the counter is checked from the database, and based on it (<5 or >5), you get your reward.

For Nexon to have actually implemented a script like this is extremely unlikely. It means adding a database entry for every account which will contain the number of "premium" items received, and that entry would have to be reset daily.

If you have no programming knowledge, you're probably thinking "that seems easy. it can't be that hard". It's not about easiness - it's about likelihood based on what Nexon's done in the past and the amount of effort they're likely to invest for such a trivial event like this.

Nexon doesn't go messing around in the database just to add junk info like that. That's my 2cents.

If you want to actually prove that Nexon does implement this method (once again, soooo unlikely), you'll need to conduct a trial on a much larger scale (think 1000 boxes in a day), and prove that you did not get a single premium item after you had 5.

Moreover, keep in mind that the feedback in this thread is solicited with a bias (considering the title). Those who got good items after their first 5 are unlikely to respond. Finally, I cannot say this for certain, but I recall getting more than 5 "premium" items in a day, and they weren't all within the first 20-30 boxes.

copypasta from jms, they may not even know they did it

sounds plausible.

You underestimate their dedication when it comes to jewing their fans. It may take them years to fix simple glitches that make the price of NX go up for any number of reasons, but the very moment something moves the other direction they will immediately fix it. Just look at the Treasure Mobs, they didn't even last a day because they dropped MMBs like candy, which messed with the wonderful inflation bubble we currently have going.

edit: and yeah, didn't they bring in people from one of the other HQs to do this patch?

Did you look at the screenshots in this thread?

The probability of getting something like that if the premiums have a uniform probability (say, 1:100) is tiny.
It might be that after 5 their probability becomes not 0 but 1:1000, but it is quite clear that up to 5 it is much higher than after 5.

And btw, I have 25 years' professional programming experience. Counting to 5 is not hard. True that Nexon is usually much too lazy to implement something like that, but the evidence is incontrovertible.

snip long post

first -- nexon has shown a desire to extend the limits of their coding and has added in new things for events that we havent seen before in order to improve our experience with fleeting events that never come back. they did a whole bunch of new stuff with the visitor events for example, daily things that werent possible in the game before that event. a dynamic random prize box would not be outside of the realm of possibility, and would probably be something that they would do as its kind of in line with the mentality of getting lots of people online to do a little bit every day. the lack of foresight that the system could be abused by single users gathering tons of boxes and being patient is also typical nexon, but still isnt outside of their vision of keeping people around as long as possible.

second -- if 1000 is statisically significant, 120 really isnt much worse. not receiving a single goodie in 80 boxes when i got 5 in the first 40 (and i think its probably something more like 0/90 and 5/30 but i didnt keep track of the last box to give me a goodie) should be a significant result showing something changed, although my stats knowledge is limited cuz im applied math and dont feel like looking up a test for the numbers when i can just be patient instead.

Your two cents are woefully ignorant.

You act as if Nexon would have to build some new architecture to implement such a counter.
Well, you're wrong.

Tell me, how does Nexon's database know whether an individual character has already entered Zakum's Altar twice in one day?

That's just one example. Another would be the 10 run per day limit on every PQ that was just added.
In reality, such a counter can be implemented as easily as it is to add any daily quest.
The only difference is that the player has no visible indication of the counter.

This man speaks so much truth, it is sigworthy. I honestly don't know how some people can possibly believe that this is 'too hard to program.' Even a BASIC intro C++, VB or C# student can write a random generator that starts screwing the player based on the # of "desirable" results in a field.

The main issue at stake here, is realizing just how much POWER Nexon has in order to pineapple us over. Anyone remember the game Deux Ex? For the few of you who have never played it, I won't spoil it, but there's a section where this guy and his brother start being afraid of just how much power the companies (aka "Big Brother") have, to manipulate the players they give certain "gifts" to. If Nexon can do this with random rewards, who knows what else they can, or have, done this to in the past? And as others above noted, Nexon DOES seem to be a VERY underhanded company...literally no better than the scammers and hackers who play this game. The fact that they INSTANTLY nerf (*cough* REMOVE *cough*) treasure monsters to take away our fun, while doing NOTHING about duped items, hackers, broken PQ's, hackers DC'ing people, etc, AND EVEN WORSE, LIE ABOUT THE SERVERCHECK--CLAIMING THEY ARE FIXING A SERVER STABILITY ISSUE, WHEN ALL THEY ARE DOING IS NERFING THE FUCKING MONSTERS (why do you think the servers were back up so fast?), should tell you something.

the problem is nexon's inability to code seriously their game, a good example? the quest of the evolving belt you get today seems to crash you if you have full set up slots.

plus the other thousand of slip ups they've done, it's not that we don't believe nexon is capable, more like we get surprised every time they show it (rarely)

speaking of, got 3 boxes, one on each different char today, all of them gave me an 15% for attk scroll, LOOOOOL. thinking of using them on my rac mask and hope for the best, dunno.

I don't actually find this system "underhanded". I like it much better than the usual uniform low probability for good stuff.
The only underhanded part is that they didn't tell us.
If they had put in the event description, "These boxes contain, among lesser prizes, such amazing items as <list>. However, in the interest of fairness, they are programmed/enchanted no to give any one player more than five of them per day. So, after getting your five, please give other people a chance at Eregos, while you enjoy some of the other wonderful content we have for you," it would be great.
However, they seem to enjoy baiting us with the great stuff right off, and then watching with glee as we spend the rest of the day racing, camping, and ks'ing each other over boxes that yield nothing but disappointment...

I would have loved for those treasure mobs to have stayed...but that goes up to the KR (or JP? I actually don't know where they came from...) branch. That doesn't mean they aren't wrong too, but at least that shifts the blame a little bit.

All in all, I am pleased with the events for Ascension.

The first 5 premium items is a consistent result. They come out too fast.

Have you ever seen an event be so generous?

No idea what you guys are on. The rate of getting these seems pretty consistent to me.

13 scrolls out of 31 boxes today.

The Accessory INT scrolls aren't premium.
You got exactly 5 of what we call premium or goodies: AEE, Special Pot, 1h m.att (x2), and Accessory m.att. Last was on box 17.

So you're going to use examples of their code failing to ignore every bit of code in the game that actually works exactly as it is meant to work?

That's mighty illogical.
