Crit Ring or Magical Ring?
#1
Which one would be better for a battle mage.
The Crit ring has 10% criticals, but the magical ring has an extra 4 m.att with 5% critical rate.

Didn't critical rate in the rings get deleted with Big Bang?

Magical is better.

I'm pretty sure critical rate still applies, seeing as how when I wear the ring, my Critical Rate is boosted 10%. Would they leave in just the number boost, and have the actual stat application be separate? I couldn't imagine that, but somehow it wouldn't surprise me.

On that note, magical is probably more useful.

nope, the crit damage was removed, not the rate. i think for magicians that 5mattk would benefit more compared to a 5% crit.

Whoops, my numbers reflected the increase in average crit damage, not total DPS. Disregard this.

Magical is better.

5 m.att, 5% Crit, 8% Stun Rate > 1 m.att, 10% Crit

The increased critical chance from critical ring will increase overall DPS by 7.148%
The increased critical chance from magical ring will increase overall DPS by 3.574%

These hold true regardless of what your range is, because the critical multiplier range will always be the same ( In this case *1.25 ~ *1.5 [ or *1.375 on average ] ).

If total magic attack is the same, the critical ring will offer *1.0345 the DPS. Therefore in order for the magical ring to be better, the 4 magic att difference has to increase your overall damage by .0345; which is only true when your magic attack is 115 or less.

tl;dr: Critical ring is better unless you only have 115 total magic attack from all your gear.

So, if i have more than total 115 m.att crit ring is the way to go?

Take critical ring, because it has chance to 1hko.

My friend is lv 155 now, and all training mobs basically are boss tagged so the 1hko thing doesn't matter nor the 8%Stun @Green4Ever

I was under the impression that mincritdmg is 1.20 base, so with +20 from battle mastery, bams would be *1.4 ~ *1.5 or *1.45 on average

Math on the corner of my brain's napkin:
10% more crit chance means 10% more of the time instead of hitting 100% of your damage you hit 145% of your damage. 45% damage increase 10% of the time = 4.5% overall damage increase for crit ring from crit. Exactly half that for magical ring. That means 4 matk needs to beat 2.75% damage boost, which would be a higher value than 115.

I may be wrong though, I'd also like to know how you got your numbers.

Average Critical Damage is 1 + rate * (min + max) / 2
1 + 0.45 * (0.4 + 0.5) / 2 = 1.2025
Critical Ring raises DPS by 1.037x
-> 1 + 0.55 * 0.45 = 1.2475
1.2475/1.2025 = 1.037x
Magic Ring raises DPS by 1.019x
-> 1 + 0.5 * 0.45 = 1.225
1.225/1.2025 = 1.019x

Critical Ring is 1.018x better than Magic Ring in DPS.
283 or more MATK is required for the Critical Ring to beat the 5 MATK of the Magic ring though.
283 * 1.018 = 283 + 5 = 288.
i.e. if MATK is less than 283, 200 for example, 200*1.018 = 203.6 < 205.
if MATK is greater than 283, 300 for example, 300 * 1.018 = 305.4 > 305

If Dark Shock is considered, to be used along with Teleport, on Normal (6) + Booster, Critical Ring is only 1.014x better than Magic Ring, and requires 357 or more MATK for the Critical Ring to beat the 5 MATK from the Magic Ring.

Magic Ring is better.

For an Evan then? They would have have 55% base Crit rate with Critical Magic and Dark Fog maxed. Would it still be the Magic Ring?

While we're on the topic of rings, are there any rings that can be made via Jewel Crafting that are better than Crit Rings? And if so, do those rings stack?

Not sure on stats, but I do know every single craftable ring will stack with any ring but a duplicate of itself.

Caveat on Joe's (otherwise correct) math: its a 4 matk difference between the two, so 222 matk is the magic number, which is a bit more conceivable for funded folks. High funding/lots of matk = critical ring is better.

I'm not really sure why using teleport or dark shock would change the relationship between the rings regarding damage though, just talking about the initial calculations.

Dark Shock has 100% Critical Rate with both Rings, so the extra 5% that the Critical Ring gives doesn't actually contribute in that scenario.

I just realised I was missing a line of code in my scenario though so the estimation grossly overcontributes damage from Dark Shock, fixing now. It only requires 357 MATK.
