Windows 7 more bossing fixes

Quoted by -hime-

You might see a reduction in disconnecting, possibly mostly in bossing. Wink

*Raises glass*, here's hoping they actually fix something this time around instead of half-assing it like last time.

No comment on vista.. so.. i guess i'm still going to have to install xp again..

This is like the 5th time they've claimed to have done something about the issue. If I can actually host some CZak and Van Leon runs without 80% of the group disconnecting, that would be awesome.

I don't think von leon runs will have serious disconnection issues because it isn't a multi-part ordeal like all previous bosses. I can only hope that i can finish a Czak/HT. >_> That's all i want.

I don't see why they don't target memory leak issues. The majority of D/Cing issues come from memory leaks that NEED to be fixed regardless. If they've managed to fix the memory issue, then I would assume they've fixed bossing as well. It'd be killing two birds with one stone.

Vista and W7's issues are more or less the exact same in every way. I still run vista, as do my two sisters' and whatever they do to W7 has an affect on Vista as well 99% of the time.

I hope it works this time. I find it really sad when I can D/C even with 8 GBs of RAM.

Yeah seriously, the game takes like 5 times as much memory after an hour of playing as when it starts up. The minimum requirments for this game are supposed to be 512mb, but that's if you can stop all other processes from running....huge F7 to nexon

In this post on Spadow's blog last month he says:

Quote:Some of you might have read my rant about the Windows Vista & 7 issues with MapleStory. I’m glad that this has been resolved so that players can finally enjoy boss battles and other things.
Now I can enter and finish Zakum everytime!

Sooooo..... maybe?

Uh...what? :f6:
Since when has RAM affected your network connection to the server and vice-versa?

Players with Windows 7 machines and dual core processors will no longer be disconnected during boss fights or after being logged in for a long period of time. These players may notice momentary lag when first entering a boss map.

Since people started calling the client hanging or crashing "D/C".

That's not as easy as it sounds. Memory leaks are very sneaky bugs. I don't know whether they're doing all they can to find them (got a very strong suspicion that Nexon refuses to buy its development team the tools that help hunt down these types of bugs), but it's definitely not as trivial as Body Boost... or even the missing hitboxes on Masteria mobs.

When MapleStory's memory usage exceeds your RAM capacity, it shuts down. When getting D/C hacked, if you open up your task manager, you'll see that Maple's memory usage shoots up huge amounts. When bossing and D/Cing (and thus crashing), you'll see that Maple's memory usage also shoots up huge amounts. It's especially funny (without laughing) to see a game like Maple use up more RAM than StarCraft II.

My husband's a programmer, and he says that learning to clear memory caches should be one of the most basic things learned as a programmer, especially when it comes to gaming. All of the players that you see from the moment you log on don't get removed out of the memory cache until the moment you close out the client. That means all of the spammers you see in the Free Market Entrance have their graphical data stored in the cache and bogging down memory that it shouldn't be used once they're on a different map.

well, since BB patch, i haven't experienced any crash issue doing bosses on my win7 64 bits, i could do zak run twice, then pap, then scar, then apq w/o the need to restart the client.

however, something i did to my client was adjust it to use more than 2gb of ram, but it seems that nexon changed its exe file to already support more than 2gb of ram after BB patch. i still can leave maple on in the background while playing WoW w/o any issue.
