Wikileaks and Julian Assange

I'd like to know what everyone here @ Southperry thinks about the site Wikileaks and its owner/founder Julian Assange.

alot of people are condemning the site and its founder especialy at the major news networks.

I personally support Wikileaks and think that Julian Assange currently has the biggest balls in the world, I'd put Michael Moore at a far second place.
he's doing the work that reporters and the TV stations stopped doing long ago, he is a journalist if there ever was one, without people like him there is no democracy also the man who handed these classified documents to Mr.Assange is currently on trial however in my opinion he should recieve a pineappleing medal and be hailed a national hero.

It's sad that in this day and age speaking the truth is still condemnable and taboo.

I personaly have to say that its far too much of a coincidence that this was released the same day as wikileaks released secret documents.
This is blatently a smear campaign and to be honest even if it isn't an atempt to ruin his name and shut him up, he is far lesser an evil then these big corporations , defence contractors , crooked politicians and cops * goes on and on *.

now wikileaks has announced that they're going to release documents pretaining to a certain big bank, whilst going after a bank is basicly suicide I have salute these brave people at wikileaks.

to summarize my opinion - these people are heroes , without them democracy is just a concept and I urge you all to read up on this issue and if you DO decide to support them and something does happen to these brave people, please go out and PROTEST!

I'm still hesitant on how I feel about this.

Democracy allows often for loopholes such as WikiLinks to exist. They are exercising the right to free speech however in it's most simplest explanation. I do feel they need to be a little more reserved when it may come to releasing too much information, but releasing enough information to make a point without jeopardizing the well-being and security of anyone involved unless absolutely necessary. However, think about this. If WikiLinks did not exist, someone else would have done possible the same thing as well, and if WikiLinks is shut down, someone will replace them.

Julian Assange is a brave man for what he does, and really Interpol is using a blanket tactic to bring him in for questioning without merit. If anything, I see this, IF Mr. Assange is arrested, he will not be allowed to live, period. Interpol and those of it's more sinister sides involved in corruption, coverups, and other dealings of malice will literally have him erased from the face of the earth. His best interest IMO is to release information about this on WikiLinks and discredit Interpol... then go into hiding.

About that last paragraph I have to agree with you except in "showing that to the publick often does good stuff":

That only applies in countries where people care about what happens and are strong and confident about their political position. Having ideals, standing up for them and, really, just acting according to them is what makes information of this kind a useful thing while taking future decisions and what not. Knowing anything related to politics is useless, you'll feel angry for 5mins and then forget about it because there's always more important stuff to do like watch TV, buy stuff or work. It would be like knowing numbers but not knowing how to use them. Since most part of the world doesn't know, doesn't care or is just to afraid to have an ideal and act according to it there will be no change, no better decisions in a near future. I don't know if I'm beign clear.

However, there are tons of examples in Latin America that will probably help me explain my point:
In the country where I live there's ton of info about corruption and massacres with support or related to the goverment. We usually read about it every day in the newspapers, once a month or so there's a new scandal related to those kind of incidents. Yet since most people doesn't know how to read they won't notice something's happening until it hits them, newspapers are owned by people that are part of the govermen, or related to it, most people doesn't watch TV news because stupid mexican soap operas are by far more interesting. The people who care and takes action are pursued by goverment institutions or ilegal groups until they can go somewhere else where they feel safe or they get killed.
We either don't know, don't care, or we're just too scared of the goverment and their legal and ilegal groups pursuing us for something we think and feel as RIGHT. (and this happens a lot of countries of central and southamerica)

We have the information, yet is useless. In most parts of the world is the same, even where people is known for the social/political commitment... If only citizens around the world felt the rage some of us might feel when we know about something that's completly wrong, unfair, ilegal, legal but pineappleing retarded, and took peaceful action against those who are doing wrong...The day a majority takes a political view, ideal or whatever, that will be the day information, development and whatnot will matter and the day the world will change.

As for the Julian Assagne, he is certanly brave. I hope he gets his exile and he keeps getting and publishing information that someday might become useful. (or that's helping little by little)
