#1
MapleStory will be going through a scheduled Server Maintenance on Tuesday, August 26th, 2008.

This one involves the game servers, and it'll last for approximately 3 hours.

<MapleStory Server Maintenance>

- Server : All Game Servers

- Time : Tuesday, August 26th, 10:00 pm ~ 1:00 am PDT

(Wednesday, August 27th, 5:00 am ~ 8:00 am GMT)

The website will be available during the Server Maintenance.

Thank you, and Happy Mapling

What is Server Maintenance?

Certain tasks cannot be performed when the server is online and everyone is playing, thus weekly maintenance is necessary. This includes bug fixes, name changes, server transfers, new items, and server optimization.

(attempt to merge the other thread into this one resulted in the destruction of both threads. Sad GG)

Do other games have weekly 3 hour downtime?

As Maple gets bigger I can see the weekly SC lasting longer than 3 hours...

There are a few, but you gotta do a bit of looking on that.

As for getting bigger maintenance sessions, its been floating around three hours the past few weeks though, hasn't it?

Take this with a grain of salt, but I read a post on sleepywood earlier where a person said they had opened a ticket asking about it; the ticket's response was apparently something like: "No, we did that on purpose and these weapons will never have the boosting effects they do in other versions."

When these came out and lacked the effect, I thought it might have been on purpose (Nexon [America] hates Mages), but I would never think they would respond to a ticket in that way.

I don't believe that. Why would they leave the elemental modifiers in the data for the weapon if they never had any intention of activating it? Much less give them the very obvious name of Elemental *****.

Did you choose to censor "wands", or is it only at my end?

I just put ***** instead of wand or staff to leave it generic. >_>

I think the fact that they named them things like "Elemental Wand 1" instead of "Glacier Wand" or something could be a tipoff. Just because it says "Element" in the name, doesn't mean it's supposed to be for a certain specific element, specifically if the weapon itself doesn't identify the element anywhere in the visible item information. Notice that the weapons do not have the description they have in some other versions. Their element isn't even identified in the item's name.

And again, Mages are hated. Can't give them something good to level on, but instead they'll make teases that are immune or resistant.

And they might have just left the data for elemental boost in but disabled it in some other way. If the data is perfectly fine in the client, that means it's serverside, right? Means a patch isn't even needed to fix this.

The descriptions weren't there in MSEA at first either.

there's so many problems with removing the amplifying abilities. It makes no sense, for one, to release these when they don't have any real benefit. Giving them a name like "elemental staff" not only implies that they have such an elemental advantage, but points it out as being the main selling point. I'm actually thinking the opposite, that if they had the "glacier staff" name then the elemental attributes are more concealed, whereas putting it in the name makes it obvious.

point is why bother releasing these because they're worthless without elemental attributes.

Uh

You do know that these existing make all other weapons obsolete regardless of whether they add elemental boost or not right?

Level 130 weapon with no secondary requirement. It doesn't matter if they don't do a 1.25x boost, they still give a magic attack boost even if not. It's not like they "do nothing", they just don't do as much if not for those. And in fact, you could say that it's two steps forward and one step back... these weapons lacking boost make them available for Bishops too, and the whole original reason for them was to make Mages stand up as effectively as Bishops without creating monsters that Mages can use like Bishops use Skele.

well, all but the 130 wands (?) and the 163 staffs, because they actually give a higher M. ATT than pretty much all dragon staffs/wands.

I don't think they will fix the elemental weapons since according to them there is nothing to fix, but is it possible can finally fix Bigfoot?

I was under the impression that anything client related like a boss monsters' attributes or a weapon's attributes and whatnot cannot be fixed in a server check, but rather that it requires a patch.

Let's say you buy you buy hella lottery tickets, and you win $1 million.
Would you be satisfied if you only received $500K?
Sure you can argue that $500K is a huge amount, but wouldn't you be pissed?

If Nexon releases these weapons without the attributes, then although they would be releasing the 'best' lukless weapons in the game, they would end up pissing off most of the population and the move would be counterproductive. What are they releasing for if half their mage players quit because of a stupid nerf they did?

Typhons aren't useless to train on.
They mob better than Newties, and if you can get enough in a mob, then you can gain exp even faster than newties, and take less touch damage for it too. Both bishops and FP mages can train here effectively. The only class that can't train on these are the Ice mages.
Most of the monsters in the caves have hella MP, so the lower leveled IL/FP can train without MP, just as a cleric can train without MP at the mansion.

For the scheduled downtime, do you think they'll rollback Yellonde? Also, would they be preparing the server for a Emergency Patch? Because if so, then there's hope that the elemental wands/staves are fixed. I saw on SW that many people have logged tickets now and received the 'we are looking into this issue' reply from other GMs, making GM Lallent seem like he's misinformed. (Because 'we are looking into this issue' would contradict Lallent's reply.)
