Making a portrait

Didn't know where to put this, but it's a serious question.

Anyone know of relatively cheap methods of printing out custom images at large sizes and mounting them into a frame? Any bit of advice would help. Perhaps you know of a cheap place to get frames, or you know of a fairly cheap printing method aside from going to a Kinkos or something.

And it would come out to be about $90 for a 16 x 18 inch portrait to be printed out and mounted onto a frame that resembles the one in the first image. I'm looking to see if there are less expensive ways of doing this before I have it made. I went t a local print shop (Kinkos and Staples prints, they both have similar pricing) and then there's an art store around here that makes frames. One of the frames look a lot like the image above, but it doesn't have to be an exact match or anything. The frame itself is about $50 without tax.

I know for a fact I can find cheaper frames than that. It was just painted wood, and that's perfectly fine, so long as it resembles the frame I want somewhat. Somewhere I got a link for an ebay auction, but I believe it was UK and don't know if they shipped internationally.

This dude made them pretty cheaply, I don't think he ever gave any real explanation other than "I had them printed, my sister had frames laying around that were perfect, and I just put them on cardboard and framed them up."

Still don't really know their sizes, or where he got them printed.

If anyone wants the high-res portraits, I can give you them. The images are too big to host anywhere.

Oooooooo, that printing site does mounted 18" x 24" for only $40, I might see how much shipping woiuld be for that (probably a buttload). May end up coming out cheaper though. I just need to find a frame before I order anything. Getting a big print of it is nice, but if I can't find any frames to fit, then it's ruined.

You can't buy these online, but to use the coupon you would have to visit a store anyways. Although, I don't know how much you would have to invest to get to said store.

I can't help but think there's some cheaper method that could save me like $50. Almost every option I come to has me sending $80+, usually $30+ just for the image alone and the frame costing quite a lot (because shipping is a pain).

I see sites like this selling their stuff at the size I'd like for like $12, and give the option to frame and canvas it for not much extra. Granted, they're not custom images, so they have them in bulk, but I know I could at least find the print itself cheaper somewhere. Meh, I'll look around more.

Have you ever been to a flea market? park n' swap? basically a large gathering place where people sell second-hand/new/unused things?

Anyway, craigslist is alright if you're fine with meeting people face to face. I personally never had a bad experience meeting with people on craigslist and I use it seldomly. It's no different than an online garage sale. People sell their junk and you meet them face to face. Better than eBay imo.

It's pretty legitimate people just give out free stuff they don't need there all the time. I've only had positive experiences so far such as getting college furniture, free 20inch CRTs, a free 30inch TV. It's just the meeting up with them that people don't like, I would advise having someone come with you.

I mean it's true but I'm not terrified of face to face interaction at all. I'll see if there are any free frames in New York then. Hopefully not upstate, but so far it seems most people giving their crap on Craigslist live upstate, which sucks because I'd end up having to pay for a ride up there.

Think I might have found one. Ganna e-mail them now and see if I can take just 1 frame, or if I have to grab the whole set. Judging by the "must have a car or taxi to pick up" requirement, I'm guessing I'd probably need to take the whole batch at once. In which case I'll just dump the ones I don't need on a curb somewhere...but that's pretty hard to do down in Manhattan where the place is, considering how busy it is down there.

I'll see. Thanks for the suggestion, guys. The frame was the most expensive part of making this, and if I can get a frame for relatively cheap, or no charge at all, then it's really helpful. Couple of scratches on the frame here and there don't bother me, it's not like anyone comes into my room anyway. I decorate it for my own enjoyment because I've not much else I feel like spending my money on.

People don't know better when it comes to computers. I wouldn't be surprised if someone actually fell for this. After all, if they browse porn sites and they're dumb, chances are they downloaded something stupid that screwed up their computer.
