So...last week, my email got hacked, and I finally got back access to it today.
Inside, I saw all my mail being forwarded to some imagine1337@hotmail.com email address, and when I checked the mail there, I saw a bunch of emails I have received. The personal stuff I'll keep to myself, but of note, there were maplestory account password, pin, etc. resets, sleepywood.net password reset requests, and wordpress password reset (to my former maple blog). They did not touch my youtube account, facebook account (lol, sister made it, not me), southperry forum info, or school info, just the maple related thiings (for which I am lucky...messing up my school stuff could be pretty annoying to recover and fix up).
Looking at the information that was reset, it is obvious that someone was trying to hack my maple account. Since then, I have set up a new email address, and forwarded all my previous things (youtube, wordpress, forums, etc) over there. What I'm wondering is if I should set for my mail from my old email to forward to my new one, so I dont forget to check it. I'm no internet expert, but the positive is that I only have to check one email then (in case people send me stuff to the old one). However, that would also expose my new email if the hacker were to try and get in again, right?
So I guess what I'm asking is...
1. Should I hook my old email to my new one?
2. What precautions can I take to securing the new/old emails?
3. Would the email be safe now that I've reset the information, or would it still be in jeopardy because likewise to how I was able to reset the password, the hacker can as well?
My current plan is to simply move my contact list/address book from the old email to the new one, and simply use the new one, as it is more "secure", with less information and whatnot. Ideas, opinions, advice is welcomed.
