Lawns May Contribute to Global Warming
#1
Yes....I know...some of you will go "lolwut?"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/lawn...balwarming

After I read this....I gotta admit that I'm a bit guilty here for contributing to global warning. Rolleyes

All these dipshit asswipes who keep spewing on about this causing global warming and that causing global warming is what really causes global warming... (<<created a loop)

New Zealand has had two winters this year, and Britain had a second ice age. Forgive me if I'm a bit skeptical.

Yes, most sane scientist are saying that we are actually heading into a mini ice age that may last upwards of 30 years. I dont really mind that, because its basically a giant bitchslap into Al Gores face.

Also, it was found that the scientist that also got a Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore was found to have fudged alot of the figures in their report. Some of the fudging? Saying there was 500k miles of ice caps in one area, and that 300k or something would melt. The problem? There was never 500k miles of ice to begin with. Also, it was mainly based on a single interview of some guy.

Aint global warming science just dandy Tongue

Are you guys actually doubting global warming? There's mounds of evidence for it and pretty much nothing against it.

As for the lawn thing, they're obviously bad for the environment. You're forcing a monoculture, you're pouring tons of fertilizer on it, and you're taking a gas guzzling machine and cutting it down every couple of days. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they do contribute to global warming.

1. use your own poop.
2. Rakes exist for a reason.
3. You dont have to use sprinklers.

Lately I've noticed a new thing... ever since Al Gore (zOMGdemocratOMGcommunist!!!) made that movie, it seems that a group of people who "hate" everything that comes from non consevative/right wing media/persons, just come up with random bullcrap to "prove" everything wrong, what comes out of the mouth of non conservative/right wing media/persons... it's just their battle against "the enemy".

The funny part is, that they don't even care if indepentant scientists have proven things already...
News from the enemy = simply not true... end of discussion... :+)

All Gore > wtp enemy > must destroy his idea's > global warming = bullcrap
Obama > wtp enemy > must destroy his idea's > health care reform / economy buildup = most terrible thing EVAR!!!
CNN/NBC/CBS > wtp enemy > must destroy their news > Fox News = only channel to watch for the truth!!!

Now this may be a little overreacting, but I know a lot of people think this way, you can see it all around the internet on how people react to certain events. I also see it happening in Europe, it's like a micro civil war fought via the media / internet... and proven facts by science are not relevant anymore from time to time... :o

Long live the human race I guess! Tongue

It's not really Global Warming that's a concern, it's Global Climate Change. Global Warming just gets more attention because it became a media buzzword.

Global warming melts ice-caps, makes oceans colder, makes earth colder, makes a mini ice age.
OH YAY.

My uncle, who has a Ph.D in chemistry, and while not necessarily a global warming specialist, is skeptical of the idea. I think global warming is happening, but it's not necessarily caused by us. Back at the end of the dark ages, temperatures rose and more land became fertile, partially why Europe was able to lift itself out of the dark ages. Temperatures rise and fall, and it's not necessarily dependent on us.

We're technically in an Ice Age right now. Both polar caps are covered in ice.

Obviously lawns contribute to global warming. Lawnmowers use gas up.

A lot of things contribute to global warming if you put it that way.

Well, over here it's the first December/January in a REALLY long time with little to no snow, and it's really disconcerting.

Thank you Thank you THANK YOU!

This is exactly what you learn when you take an entry level college Geology class! The world naturally has temperatures rising and falling, and there is little to no influence by people just living their lives. I learned that at freaking my Liberal Arts AA degree, keyword : liberal. Al Gore = liberal.

England stole it, i/we had more snow this dec/jan than we knew what to do with.

As for global warming, if you're all so sure as to why it does or does not exist, feel free to write a paper on the subject with whatever proof you happen to have of either argument :O

Damn England, why did you have to steal our snow! Snow>Rain by far.

The global carbon concentrations in the atmosphere beg to differ. Climate change isn't liberal propaganda. Only people whose political views are put in jeopardy by it and idiots deny it. Temperatures rise and fall, but we don't know enough about that process to predict what's going to happen. What we KNOW is that humans are making a huge impact on the environment and that our current lifestyles are unsustainable.

I remember a famous demotivator...

This is relevant on the fact that we must admit that we are spewing carbon dioxide in the air, using our electronic technology and enjoying our lavish lives. Dusks post is exactly right. If we didn't go into the coal age, chances are we would have done very minimal things to the earth leaving the earths climate being controlled by natural cycles. We aren't, we instead are taking a risk on our planets future by emitting carbon that was stored in our planet and was part of a natural cycle and using it as a fuel, thus taking the planet out of the natural cycle.

Climate change is a real thing and has always existed in our planet.
Referring to back to the de-motivator we are all a raindrop in this, and while we dont know to what scale the flood will be, we all know that there will be a flood because we chose to mess with nature's complex mechanisms.

And that gentlemen is what climate change is about. It's about the fact that we are changing the climate.

If we don't know how temperatures rise and fall, then how do we know we're having an effect on the temperature?

Because we are emitting mass into the atmosphere, mass that has been proven to cause a greenhouse effect, although on a much grander scale, on VENUS.
