lukless Bishop or Normal?
#1
I was in the process of making a bishop when the ele wand "fix" came out. I was lukless, but now that I can't use ele wands I am not sure what to do. I have been saving up my a.p since then, I am currently lvl 109 and have 40 or so a.p. in reserve.

Right now I have a black umbrella 92 att 6 slot. I haven't really worked on upgrading it because HS doesn't require much m. att Goggleemoticon

My question is do I stay lukless knowing I will probably end up using a 95 to 97 att wand/staff, or convert to low or normal luk and make the new timeless wand.

Depends on your funding. The more money you have, the better a luk build is. Can you get your hands on an HT Pendant? A +1 HTP is enough for a normal luk build to beat lukless.

A +1 HTP and a ZHelm brings your luck to 37, so that a 97 magic weapon only provides +60 magic for the "wasted" luck. A Reverse Aeas Hand requires 123 luck, so you'll need 183 magic to beat it. 135 magic clean + 8 magic from Adv Sapphire and Wisdom + average of 12 magic from level ups brings it to 155 clean. Pass 6 60%s and you're at 172 magic. Basically with ZHelm/HTP + okay scrolling a Reverse staff will end up a dozen or so points short of a Wisdom staff/Black Umbrella, but it costs a lot more.

Here's where Maker, and the fact that lukless mages don't get any benefit from having LUK on their equips comes in. Maker'd shoes really make the difference here. YSS don't provide much INT. A Maker'd high level shoe can give you upwards of 20 stats. Then you have gloves and overalls, although since they can be scrolled for a lot of stats a high stat mage overall/glove may not necessarily be better than a bathrobe that costs the same.

There's also Medals, and when Mu Lung Dojo comes out, you'll also have Belts that add to all stats, which helps you make 123 luck. Oh, and you could try getting a Doomsday Staff, which is a better weapon than a Reverse Staff anyway.

Simplified version of what Dusk just said:
If you can get you luk close to the luk you would need (if they were regular weapons) for 64 maple weapons or black umbrellas (67 and 73), then you should add points into luk and just use regular luk weapons/equips. A zhelm and a +1 or better HTP should probably get you high enough. Try to aim for timeless stuff.

If I were you, though, I would stay lukless until you're certain of what you're going to do if you convert. No offense, but your umbrella isn't too good, so I doubt you have the funding to pull it off.

Ain't it bad to go lukless because of the recent ele-wand fix/Nerf...?

No.
If you have alot of funding Luk stands to gain more. Glitter
But Lukless will always be cheaper and be strong enough- (for training purposes at least).
Honestly I'd hold out on Luk.
Nexon hinted at Holy ELE wands when they posted the change.
And knowing Nexon when the money tree starts drying up a bit they'll come a shaking with a new toy. Glitter

But for AMs and BWs, is it worth it to go lukless?

If you have enough to afford a lvl 130 wand, yeah, especially now that they're deflating.

Ya, I know my wand isn't very good. I haven't actually trained since I turned 3rd job so I haven't had to buy one yet. I usually wear my red whip anyways.

I don't think mesos will be a problem. I can already make them on my nl, and there is a huge demand for leech, so if I am willing to spend a few hours leeching I think I can get however much money I need for my equips.

But does that same logic apply for BWs and level 70 wands?

No they didn't.

No, elemental mages should still stay lukless. There's no way the minuscule boost you get from wearing luk equips is going to overshadow the 125% damage you could be doing with an elemental wand. If you have enough funding to convert to luk and profit on magic attack, then you have enough funding to buy an ewand, which you should eliminate any reason to go luk.

could someone help me with some cold hard statistics. I tried using a damage formula but I don't know if I quite understand the genesis dmg formula.

How would I go about manually calculating how much dmg I would do with genesis.

Thank you.

If you want the formulas (which I think you already have), check them out here: http://www.southperry.net/forums/showthread.php?t=855.
But with a more simplified formula, i.e. holy weak, defense, and mastery factored in, you get this:

MAX = [((Magic²/1000 + Magic)/30 + INT/200) * Spell Attack]*1.5 - 355
MIN = [((Magic²/1000 + Magic * 0.54)/30 + INT/200) * Spell Attack]*1.5 - 426

Genesis is 430 at level 1, 620 at 20, and 670 at 30.

Oh, and something that may be tripping you up is that you multiply in the (Mastery * 0.6), or 0.54 in this formula AFTER adding magic, so that it should really look more like ((Magic²/1000 + Magic) * 0.54).

No, you just multiply the 0.54 on one term.
It's (Magic²/1000 + Magic * 0.54) NOT ((Magic²/1000 + Magic)*0.54)

Some people say it is better to use reverse weapons but this is not actually true. A luk mage only wins in a comparison of unscrolled items. If you factor in the price of these items, lukless will end up being the best choice in the end since it is much cheaper to make a lukless mage than to forge the reverse staff.
