Paralyze/Elquiness V.S. Chain Lightning/Ifrit
#1
Which combo better DPS on a SINGLE target? It's not a F/P V.S. I/L debate. I just want to know which has better DPS when it comes to bossing at Pap or something. My bet is that Paralyze/Elquiness is stronger since summons attack very slow while Para and CL are the same speed except Para is stronger. Maybe someone can prove this with data so I'll make a 4th job F/P arch mage. Heart

Just by pure DPS, F/Ps win. But, if you also include summons getting in the way and such, CL can plow through them and keep damaging the boss while F/Ps need to use Paralyze one at a time to get through.

But as I said before, F/Ps win. According to Dusk's single target DPS thread, a lvl 200 lukless F/P will do 5k more DPS than a lvl 200 I/L

Thank you. I can see who clearly wins. Shine

Doesn't that kMS rebalance patch strengthen CL, while Paralyze remains untouched?

The max CL damage isn't changed, while the damage reduced after the first monster is. So the damage reduction from each monster to the next will be decreased.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

But well, these calculations only work for completely neutral elemented bosses, which IIRC don't exist. Biggest limiting factor in AM dps is the elemental property of the boss, which only affects Arch Mages and Paladins.

There are lots of completely neutral bosses, like pap and zakum.

The arms aren't neutral.

Only two arms are elementally immune/resistant. Rest are neutral.

I thought CL is faster than PA? According to the speed reference thread.

PA with booster = 720ms
CL with booster = 690ms

It is.

And Joe did calculations with the attack speed difference. In the end, Joe's right, they're stronger in single target DPS, but that doesn't account for the boss's summons and the like.

Mobs of 6:

Chain Lightning: 693 BA/s

Fire Demon: 1350 BA/s
Ice Demon: 1125 BA/s

Mobs of 3:
CL: 616 BA/s
FD: 675 BA/s
ID: 562.5 BA/s

That's just how horribly unbalanced and crappy CL is right now.

Good point. But most AMs don't even max the Demons until they've got the ultimate, single target, summon, and MW out of the way, right? Which means from 12x-15x I/Ls have the advantage in low numbers of mobs.

I wish they'd buff AMs damage for both classes. It's unfairly low right now.

Technically what you should be comparing is the frame count, which is constant regardless of booster (though in most cases it's just identical to the normal speed without booster)

paralyze = 800ms
chainlightning = 780ms

Demons are actually pretty efficient at line-mobbing 6 monsters; only beaten in raw damage/time by Torpedo in that aspect, and perhaps Rush + ACB/Fury (though not techcnically line-mobbers, accomplishes a similar thing). Add the fact that Teleport provides excellent mobility while attacking, and ultimateless mages are actually quite efficient trainers in a map suited for line-mobbing (which is... imaginary as of now, unfortunately).

And in exchange they should lower ULT damage for all 3 mage classes. Angel Ray could use a buff as well. What you're asking for is a class that not only obliterates Polearm DrKs, THE mobbing class before 4th job, in mobbing potential, but in 1v1 and small mob capability as well. Thank you, but no.

@ Russt, L> More linear mob maps w/ ladders or ledges that are safe resting points with NO zerk-dangerous bosses

Indeed. I would rather use the ultimates for what I think they were originally intended for, which is for clearing out large mobs quickly, but using it sparingly. If our single target damage was greater, we could easily train as fast as the other classes without using ultimates.

It beats it out on mobs. CL is better for one to two targets, and after KMS changes I think three as well.
