How many AP Courses did you apply/get into?

8th grade: Biology Honors
9th grade: Chem Honors
10th grade: Chem AP
11th grade: Bio AP or Physics AP. I took Bio first.

No exam = not an AP.

I don't think my school has qualifying exams for AP, but I know they have it for IB.

At least I have 3 AP courses. >_>

Ha. My 9th grade Honors Bio had to teach plate tectonics and geology for 2 weeks to meet the retarded requirements for our state's standardized testing.

Also, for all of you taking every humanly possible AP possible, my sister has a half true conspiracy theory. You always hear "take as many APs as possible" even though there are plenty of ways, some better than APs, to look good for colleges and other programs. The truth is, you're best off taking only those related to the area of majors you think you're interested in, plus whatever you know will be good for any general college requirements. Why? Many colleges (like the one I'm at) have a higher tuition rate when you're an upperclassman. Meaning those bulk credits that serve no purpose for your major just get you to the point where you pay higher tuition much sooner.

i.e. There's no reason I should have taken AP Gov't as an Engineering major. That's 3 credits I make absolute zero use out as a general graduation requirement, or a college of engineering requirement. APUSH also resulted in 4 extraneous credits for me (Out of 8 it earned me), but that's a different story.

And open-enrollment isn't a good idea in general: No offense to anyone, but literally having kids in AP classes that won't put in the full effort is simply dragging the class, the teacher, and the school down. The last thing the school needs is s**tty AP scores reflected on them. =\

Yes, but having open enrollment means more opportunities for students. Generally, the counselor will tell you that you're in a whole crapload of pressure if you're going to take that many APs but some children like the challenge. Without the open enrollment, they may be denied the opportunities they were looking forward to. I don't see how their efforts will "drag down" the class, because the class will continue to make progress even if you're struggling. If you're struggling, you're merely left behind, not "dragging" the class. If the people are struggling to learn the material, it's strictly the problem of the teacher's, not yours.

I know because my sister is in UCD and I've listened to some of her professors lecture and I actually understand the material better than I understand my teacher teach the same AP class at school.

Yeah. You can do it + AP, too, if your school has it. Like, my schedule is all courses at the college and the few high school classes that are required by the state are taken at the AP level (E.g. AP English III and IV are the only required ones).

I did IB my first two years of H.S. then moved to Dual Enrollment...got accepted to every college I wanted and don't even have a 3.5. Simply because of the experience/credit hours I have coming in. Slightly sad that I stayed in the same city, but I guess it makes more sense to transfer anyway. If I decide to transfer to UNC Chapel Hill, I'll transfer as a junior after only a semester or two in "real" college.

That is why they have "informational meetings" where students taking/having taken the class sacrifice a lunch period to regale us prospective AP students with horror stories.

They should have an upper division and a lower division AP class is how I see it.

To a canadian(me) you sound like your talking in a foriegn language. Someone please dumben an explanation as to how your system is. It seems so non-trade oriented and all smart ass kid oriented to me. -brain asplodz-

I got into Comp. Tech CC this year. It's a community college credit, but it may count at the UofU when I go there...but I'm only a soph.

I had to burn up 9th grade taking Physical Science. Because my school does a semester system thing, I was still able to take 7 sciences overall, 3 of which being my senior year. I did:
9th: Physical Science
10th: Biology 1
11th: Biology 2, AP Biology
12th: Chemistry 1 (lol), Physics, AP Physics B

As for APs, I took a total of 5 in high school. Biology, Physics B, Calculus AB, Microeconomics, and Literature. Only took one test so far and that was the Biology one. That was quite an easy 5.

AP and IB classes are college-level courses taught in high schools, where at the end of the course in May, there's an exam administered for it, and you're scored on a scale of 1-5 on it. Colleges will give credit for scores as low as 3s sometimes (although Georgia Tech, the college I'm going to, doesn't take anything lower than a 4). Basically, it's a nice way to get some college credit for only 84$ xP
