It's amusing to watch though. Let them dig their way down to hell, not just their grave. Would you put them in the same boat as EA and Zynga?

It's not surprising that people are labeling Microsoft as an anti-consumerist company now. It's like they don't even plan on playing the console themselves and just try to ship it off for the money. But with all these restrictions and limitations on where it can be bought and all, it doesn't seem like the best plan, so yeah...

While I am reading it as: "Microsoft realized they were digging their own graves and have changed their minds slightly"

I am not a fanboy of either the PS3 or the Xbox360. But I had enough reasons with my Xbox360 to consider trying out a PS4. My Xbox360 often decides not to work, likes to crash a lot, and is genuinely well past it's working age.

This "clarification" seems like massive backpedaling to me. Not that I really care as long as the put out a decent product come launch

Meh, thats still overcomplicating the whole thing. The cloud Sharing thing is nice but I didn't quite get the whole thing with retailers, publishers and friends.

The PS4 offering is still better.

Also that country restriction is the same one the 360 has supposedly but i play almost daily with someone from Qatar and he's never had a problem with xbox live in years

Steam DRM comes with the fact you can basically just log into Steam on your friend's computer and download your games, and then you guys can play it. Only way to do that with an XBone is to lug the thing over, and that's a bit repetitive if your friend already has an XBox.

Not to mention you can play Steam offline.

Do you know why Microsoft keeps digging a hole? Because they are trying to reach the other side of the world to finally appeal to Japanese gamers.

I won't be getting one unless I hear 2 important things - 1) You can play used games 2) You can play 360 games on it.

Ha! That's the same logic the microsoft shills were trying to use. Good luck with that, because it isn't the console ecosystem vs the PC ecosystem isn't even close to the same.

The most important point: Used PC games were already dead because of DRM before steam came along. If you want to argue that is even remotely the case right now for consoles, I'll just point you to the video of the sony conference where the crowd went into several minutes of applause when they announced they aren't fucking you over like microsoft.

Steam: You can use the offline mode forever without logging back in. Forever is a lot longer than 24 hours, in case you hadn't noticed.

Steam games are much cheaper than the XBone games are going to be. If you think microsoft is going to cut the RRP below $60 or have anything even close to steam sales, you're either gullible or stupid. This in part covers up for the no resale value.

Steam doesn't have a lock down on the PC market. They have to compete with a ton of other retailers for sales (and steam support is provided through other retailers!). Microsoft is going to be the only person distributing microsoft keys and gets to dictate the prices. End of.


And that's just scratching the surface. Go on over to neogaf and look up one of the gaffers vs microsoft shills threads to see some people using that argument really getting ripped apart.

You can login anywhere and play your games, anyone in your house can play with the family xbox. The only diff is steam you have to sign in before playing, and Xbox does it automatically at night for you (once per 24 hours)

Except anywhere where there's no XboxOne support am I right.

It's laughable how they're trying to compare themselves to Steam, hell, I don't own any Steam games and I know these comparisons are ludicrous. Then there's all the talking down like gamers are just wanting to kick down Microsoft for no reason and jump onto the PS4 hype train and it makes for a very bad read. Good grief.

No doubt those restrictions are coming to consoles. Microsoft just took the first big step, but took it way too early and Sony is taking advantage of that and that's just fueling our hate toward changes.

Yeah but it's generally still the wrong direction. Take off online only and gurrantee digital sales that resemble the steam ones, that would be considered the step in the right direction. But even then, the point of a console is the tangible property you own. If you're going to go full DLC people are just going to invest into PC's. My opinion though.

So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console — there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.
