how would you go about fighting Van Leon and Akyrum?

do you have any techniques?
any must-haves?
tips and tricks?

I died 14 times at Van Leon today, but I managed to get him down in about 22 minutes.

I got halfway through Akyrum in 9 minutes, but the game crashed. ;_;

for Van Leon, I let him max out spawns like he's supposed to, but he kept on eating the baby golems(only fought him once before this, with a korean who knew what he was doing).
I have magic crash.

for Akyrum, I just go nuts on him and nail his spawns with chain lightning.
I had never seen a fight with him before, so his animations took a little getting used to, but the only one I care about is DR and I've learned that one.

any help is much appreciated.

• 1st: Haste(useless, so is MG)
  
• 2nd: Mental Clarity(Power Guard, Rage(none of them hit enough to 1 hit me, so I find PG not worthy of using here))
  
• 3rd: Combo Attack(Magic Crash and Holy Symbol(I switch between crash and combo, then HS at the very end))
  
• 4th: Rapid Fire(Chain lightning(I switch between these at akyrum, for when he summons and when he is free of them))
