While I don't doubt in the slightest Nexon being capable of jumping the shark to the point of Pokemonizing classes (Gotta Catch Them All!), this could just as easily be week one of a three week build up to an April first "Gotcha". The fact that they've never done it before is exactly the sort of basis one would need in order to perform a prank of this sort.
There's just too much about this that smells funny and makes no sense, even from a Nexon perspective.
