A mirdan hammer style lucerne (a la Demon/Dark Souls) has a slightly heavier hammerhead, but since it is doublesided the attack speed is still high enough for continuous comboing. Stabby end for keeping zombies at a distance, hammer end for the kill, spiked tip on hammer end for quick push with a side effect of muscle disabling.

I think of a much different type of weapon when I think of a mace. It's more like a giant spiked club or hammer.
