Well, to be fair, you have to get decently far into the storyline and/or find a Dream Fragment, and even then it's not actually confirmed until you defeat Cygnus.

No, the Visitors was a stable time loop as well as I remember. We're just lacking the huge catastrophe that makes the world nigh-uninhabitable.
