The reason I would remove mesos on a curve, instead of straight up 90% cut - is to protect the new players who only have a few hundred thousand mesos anyway. When paying for potions cuts into your bankroll, it does make a difference in playability. When you have 2.1bil, buying pots is just a question of how many times you have to click to fill up your inventory.
Now that you mention new players struggling to afford potions at lower levels, how effective do you think a curve for potions would be? The higher level you are, the more potions cost. Do you think that would be a small but effective way of removing mesos from the game without coming out and saying "We're taking X amount of your mesos"? Just a thought.
