In MHFU / 2G, there was a video on how to use a GS against Akantor. After studying the video several times, I tried the same method, but with an LS on an Akantor in MHFU. Easy kills if you know where to run and how to hit. I usually aim for his 'belly' and face. Belly being priority if I can get to it, face just for the fangs, really. Once you break his stomach's armoring, it's easy. IIRC, you had to break it twice and then you can do major damage to him. Just use a full-gauge Spirit Sword (LS) and he gets wrecked if you can pinpoint him at the stomach.
Typing about this makes me wanna pop in my MHFU and play again. F`uck. I also tried using the slower weapons, but in MH series, I'm just not a big fan of it. Though in other games, I do prefer using slower weapons (ie: God Eater Burst)
