Weapon Attack vs. +%Stat!
#2
Mazz Wrote:Hi!

Sorry, thread title sort of suggests both stats under potential. I'll explain: I've got some pretty good attack equips (11 ATT Facestompers, 8 att PAC) but both are second tier potential. I cubed them a bit and ended up with 6% all stat (I'm going for all stat as primary, since I have like.. 6 characters) on the shoes and 4% all stat on the cape. Is anyone able to shed some light onto whether or not I'd be better off trying to sell these items and getting higher level items without the extra attack and shooting for more %stat? A guildie said that 1 attack was roughly equal to 1% of primary stat, but I'm not sure that'd always be correct. I don't really know how the formulas were changed since I've been away from Maple.

Long winded thread. I do that, my bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated! ^_^

The thing about % all stat and weapon attack is that because both are overall multipliers in the damage range formula, they both suffer from decreasing returns to scale; i.e. the marginal percentage effect +1% all stat is lower if you already have a lot of it, and vice versa. For example, if you have no % stats to speak of and obtained +1% all stat, your damage range will go up by 1% (disregarding rounding). If you have 300% all stat already and obtained +1% all stat more, your damage range will only go up by 0.25%. Similarly, +1 att means a lot more when you have only 100 attack already compared to when you have 300. Basically, a +x attack increase is the same as a +y % all stat increase if x and y are equally proportional to how much attack and how much % all stat you already have (keep in mind you start with 100% all stat).
