I can also confirm that Big Bang is usable in mid-air now. Here's a screenshot:

Chances are that Piercing might be able to do the same as well.
On a different note, Leafre quests seem to give out a ton of Empathy. Pam's quest involving collecting 80 Birk's Chewed Grass in particular says that it gives out a little over 2k Empathy, which I'm sure is way over the daily cap. Too bad I already maxed my Archmage's Empathy gains for the day (which is why I didn't turn in the quest upon seeing that gain, seeing as there's only an hour left before everything is supposed to reset).
