They should use gmail's idea of 2 step verification.
Whenever I log into my gmail, I receive a text message on my phone for a 6 character code to input to log in. I think it's a good system for those who have a cellphone w/ texting (literally almost 80%+ of maple...)

As long as the hacker doesn't just change your phone number, that works ok.
