I don't know how I'd function without a 2-day weekend.
Saturday has always been my "waste it however you want" day. That's the day to unwind and stop caring for a day. Sunday's my "Do all the homework/chores/etc and then slack off with whatever time you have left" day.
Out of curiosity, in the countries with different school schedules, do work days for regular full-time jobs follow the same different schedule?
