The cold bronze might actually stop the boil for a while and displace the heat temporarily until it has a chance to heat up as well. If anything it might create a lot of steam if there is condensation on the metal.

The same thing happens when you boil water to cook pasta. The water is boiling until you add the room temperature noodles then it stops boiling temporarily until the noodles get heated and boiling and continue.
