Now... when you say PURELY based on religion. I'm guessing you mean a war fought 100% on "I don't like your religion so I'm going to slaughter thousands of your people". Maybe there wasn't a war fought JUST on that and no other reason whatsoever. I can't say for sure since I haven't researched into it.
Crusades. Some christians decided "Hey, let's slaughter people without bibles"
There are plenty more.
