A baby has a place in society. A fresh fetus does not.
A baby can survive outside of the womb. A fetus cannot.
A baby can feel pain and think. A fetus cannot.
Human vegetables can't do any of those things.
The thing is, you don't define a human by whether or not they can survive. You define a human by whether or not it is genetically a human. A fetus is a being separate from the mother with its own genetic code. It is not a cell of the mother, it is a new human from the combination of two cells from its mother and father. An egg cell or a sperm cell is just another cell in mother or father's body. Before fertilization, these two cells are not a human, but just a part of a human. In this stage, you can do whatever the hell you want to them because it is still you, and not a separate human.
