Reminds me of when I had a crush on a guy in my class and never came out to him. Only reason why I did was because he questioned a Facebook picture I had at the time. Turns out, he had a crush on me the same time I had a crush on him. And this happened 6 months BEFORE the Facebook thing.
Just as Yabloki said. If you single it out as "I'm gay", the other would likely do the same (assuming they are). It's better than assuming someone is gay and then getting the punch when they aren't after a stunt that was pulled.
