The assignment goes into great detail about how to do this and gives you a lot of freedom about how to go about doing this so long as you get the correct answer.
Sounds like you'll need to manually implement carry and reduction operations on big integers. This seems like so much fun. I wish I had the time to do it. I could use a brush up on my linked lists.
Each linked list is stored in an array filled with linked lists. Read in the data, parse the data, then clear the buffers you created. Read one line at a time. Do one thing at a time.
