It is. They're have been studies regarding why it's easier for people to accept hetero and homo sexuality but think of bi as just as phase, or being greedy or indecisive or confused.
People don't associate gender as just another physical trait like hair or eye color. It's an entire imposed sense of identity and you either like one or the other even when it's been well proven that the normal is more in between and most of the polarization is based on societal expectations not actual interest or function.
