Yes, yes it was. 
I think my favorite thing about the There She Is!! series is that its message is so... relevant in today's society. Even though I was tentative at first about the serious tone in Step 4 (when all the prior episodes were so lighthearted and carefree) I felt more drawn in to Doki and Nabi's story than ever, and I feel that the creator took a risk with the story that was well worth it.
And dangit, it's just so darn cute!
