Cool points? What value do they actually have on the internet?

Maybe I'm wrong but I've seen people obsess over learning Japanese before and when I ask them why, they say because of Anime. I think it's kinda sad people want to learn a language for the sake of cartoons so I really wonder how many people are like that here? Sure I love Japanese stuff and cartoons too but the obsessiveness is a little over the edge sometimes... I certainly don't see Anime-based Japanese competancy to be cool at all.

I know a couple friends that knows Japanese. I know why they wanted to learn though, it was so they could play Japanese video games that were not released in the US. I do know a couple people irl that are obsessed with anime a bit too much though, it's almost unhealthy. Oh well, their life. Not my problem. -shrugs- I watch anime a lot, myself, but I'm too lazy to learn Japanese. Same goes for almost any other language, if I don't understand it, I'll skip it. Instead of wondering "What does that mean?" and go out of my way to find out what it really means.
