ray - I guess you're thinking of a particular situation where morality conflicts with happiness. Here's an example - let's say it would make me very happy if someone else was dead. Two options - prevent them from living and be happy, or let them live, and be unhappy.
You might suppose that everyone believes that "preventing someone from living" is an immoral act. But it's in the situation when morality conflicts with happiness that people, who would otherwise believe that killing is immoral, do an immoral act, in order to satisfy their desire for happiness. I would agree with most of the sentiments in this thread - most people think morality first 90% (quoting CoB). the problem is that the other 10% is where the crime is usually committed.
