You're looking simply at the cost of equips and scrolls, not their practical application. You do not *need* any of that to be strong at all, any ore than any other class needs expensive items to be strong. You don't need ilbis, you don't need a strong claw or dagger, you don't need a ton of LUK gear and you don't need an attack shield. You can kill things without any of those items.
A completely unfunded dexless sin throwing icys and using a below average 100%'ed maple claw is easily stronger than any other class of a similar level with the same amount of funding put in, and will be able to equal another class that has had more funding put into it. Same deal with a dit though a little less so. That is not weak and that is not expensive.
A gunslinger might be able to get a +5 30%'d gun for the same price as a below average 100%'d maple claw, but the sin with the maple claw will still be doing more damage and leveling faster.
