Unless you got a keylogger on your computer, the hack must be from someone you know :S. Forwarding is okay, but if you use gmail, i believe it can pop3 or imap to hotmail and check it that way, I don't think it leaves a trace. Make sure you don't pick the same secret question again and obviously different password this time.
