Remove Pain Split for Gengar immediately. He dies from almost all attacks in one hit, anyways.
You also need some Gyarados counter, as I'd expect a lot of those running around in HGSS. I'd say throw a Choice Scarf on that Timid Gengar and replace Pain Split with Thunderbolt.
