I think defence should be changed, but the reason the armor system sucks is because of the total cost and the levels of the gear. How easy is it to buy 100 bathrobes and scroll them with 10s? Someone I know recently did this with about 100 robes and a few hundred 10%s for overall dex. Whatever failed he would just npc, if it passed he would scroll once again. In the end he got a few +20dex robes. Now if you were to do this with a Reverse equip it would be near impossible to even have enough funds to purchase more than 10~.
What's worse is the benefits. Robes are clean, a godly makered Reverse can have about 15+ more stat points, but by that level how much of a benefit is 15 stats. Unless they made it so level 50+ items give an insane amount of stat bonuses I don't think things can change. Also, you have to consider resale value. Who are you going to sell a +50 str Timeless warrior overall to? No one. Who can you sell a +50 str robe to? All classes except for mages and sins.
