This. So long as the make-up is not garishly overdone, you're probably fine.
Skin care, on the other hand, is something everyone, regardless of gender, should be focused on since entering 6th grade. One of my biggest regrets in life is not doing enough for my skin early on, and now I'm paying for it with visits to a dermatologist and a multitude of products. Not to say that things don't get better, but the more you do early on, and stick with as the years progress, the better off you'll be throughout life.
EDIT: Make-up is not vain if it's done well. Actors and actresses all wear make-up in any scene of any movie/TV show, and I'm willing to bet they all wear make-up to big events such as the Academy Awards and the Grammys. Again, if make-up is done well, and only applied where needed, there's nothing to worry about. For example, to me foundation is a MUST, as it evens your facial skin tone and creates the gorgeous "porcelain skin" visage. But past that you may not need much. As Myles said, use concealer with blemishes and other imperfections, eyeliner and mascara in moderation to bring out your eyes, and lipstick (and in my opinion, light eye shadow as well) when going out. There's no need to go vaudeville every day, unless that's how you absolutely choose to dress. In the end, make-up and skin care is all about creating healthy, imperfection/blemish-free skin and bringing out facial aspects that identify you without bringing way too much attention to you.
