MTS is "free" in monetary sense only. The time I spent for MTS is the time I wasted on not doing something else. There is a steep requirement for entering MTS, that is you need to have items that people want. On top of that, you need to pay hefty tax as well. MTS is a trading system, period. You cannot trade nothing for something.
