You're mistaken. Locks only destroy the item if the lock flag of an expiring lock is removed without resetting the expire date of the item itself back to 1/1/2079. This is because the lock flag shares the "ExpireDate" field of an item, and when it's present the expiredate serves as the point to unlock the item and reset the date, but when the lock flag is removed the expire date becomes a ticking countdown to true expiration.
The permanent locks work perfectly fine, and i owe me not being naked to having used them on every ounce of my gear. I am sad (for everyone else) they're no longer sold.
What's truly lacking is any form of security on NX - All of mine was taken via MTS because unlike gifting, it didn't even require entering my birthday to spend it.
