LET'S DO IT!
Love ya Kev, but from a medical/political standpoint I'll disagree. I'm not one for required H1N1 vaccines (as of right now; when it mutates I will be), but when a BSL4 pathogen threatens the existence of humanity, mandatory vaccinations are the way to go. You don't want to have the one person who chooses to not get vaccinated contract the disease, have it mutate inside of them, and then get everyone else sick because the vaccine is all of a sudden useless.
Yes. The current method of creating a vaccine is to take the actual virus particle and render it "Inactive," which means the RNA of the capsule is destroyed via UV raditation, etc. The dead particles are then inserted into the body via syringe, nasal spray, etc., and interact with the immune system as foreign particles. Immune system molds to learn the structure of the viral capsule so it can kill any others that invade (ie. if you catch activated H1N1), while the dead virus particles DO NOTHING (since they are, again DEAD).
Basic note for all: There is a MAJOR DIFFERENCE between BACTERIA and VIRUSES. BACTERIA are living organisms that contain a cellular makeup that places them in a category of living creatures called "Prokaryotes." Human beings are in the "Eukaryotic" domain. Our cells contain many similarities, but enough differences that we are classified in separate groups. They can be killed with antibiotics, drugs synthesized from unique molecules found from a plethora of natural sources.
VIRUSES, on the other hand, are non-living particulates. Not enough is known about them to classify them along with living organisms, nor do their known characteristics meet the general guidelines for the definition of "life." Viruses CANNOT be killed with antibiotics (antibiotics - "Anti-bacteria"...get it?), and currently CANNOT be killed with any "silver bullet" drug. They CAN, however, be destroyed by your immune system, which is what a vaccine "edits," per se, to be able to do.
The dizzying double-edge of the world of Biology is that ANYTHING can cause "side effects" if inserted/consumed into the right person. People can die from taking NyQuil, people can get seriously sick from Singulair. In short, side effects are expected in rare cases from almost anything ever released. To prove this, give me a list of 3 prescribed medications that don't have any FDA-documented side effects whatsover. A list like that doesn't exist; there are always issues with medication.
Oh, and the seasonal influenza and H1N1 influenza vaccines can be delivered via the FluMist nasal spray for those allergic to eggs or other components of the traditional vaccine solution. There are ways to protect yourself if you don't know.
Along with what I said above, vaccines are ALWAYS made of dead VIRUSES. Bacteria are NEVER used in vaccines because vaccines DO NOT protect against them.
Where have you heard this statistic? The CDC has never reported such a fact, nor has any other prominent and reputable government agency or vaccination advocacy group.
I'll try to convince you to get the vaccine in this short paragraph. First, read what I said about the production of vaccines above. Understand that you're preparing your immune system to destroy any H1N1 particles that enter your body by getting a vaccine, and these particles are dead and inactivated, unable to infect you. If you take your chances and contract the activated H1N1 virus, your immune system will take longer to respond, guaranteeing illness until it can react and eliminate the threat. Your symptoms will be worse and potentially life threatening, as, again, this virus has active RNA and can work to produce copies of itself and make you sicker. In short, chances are you'll come into contact with activated or inactivated H1N1; choose the inactivated shot in order to prevent the activated virus from ruining a few days - or your life.
Rumors tend to fly unhindered when people don't know much about the situation. If you're curious as to the myth v. fact of several of these hoaxes, as well as want more true information regarding the vaccine and the virus itself, visit http://www.cdc.gov/H1N1FLU/.
You getting sick might also not be from the vaccine itself. Ever wonder how many pathogenic particles and organisms are floating around on a daily basis, in every room you enter? Chances are if you get sick on or around the time you got a vaccine, you picked up something else. Schools, work places, and anywhere human beings tend to be packed together for long periods of time are breeding grounds for pathogens. Considering most people get a flu shot in between school and other activities, it's quite easy for the development of another disease to be confused with that of H1N1 or seasonal influenza.
So what can I say? Flu-shots, like any other shot, may be nasty on the outside (most people, myself included, dislike getting a needle poked into their arm), but do a whole lot of good on the inside. It's better for yourself, your family and friends, and your community to get vaccinated.
Hope that helps! Please feel free to PM me or contact me if you have any questions. Stay healthy everyone and get vaccinated!

No comment, just insert rage here. That's just not right.

Basically, from what I've heard, after getting the vaccine, you have a 30% chance of getting sick for the next few days. This would mean Im trading my low odds of getting, and even lower odds of dying of the swine flu for a 1/3 chance of getting sick for the next few days?
No thanks, I'll take my chance with the swine flu.

Getting sick from the vaccine isn't your fault and often has nothing to do with allergies.
Flu-shots are nasty. I plan to never get one.
