I open doors for both men and women just because I am nice, no other reason than that.

because we as people are driven by the approval of our peers, and that if we do kind favors unto them they would in turn be expected to reciprocate to both further their own social status, but also that of your own?

That's hardly the reason I open doors for people, I could care less what people think of me.
