At my company Christmas party this year, there are a bunch of games/contests/whatever with nifty prizes. Name that tune, guess the number of corks in the bowl, beer pong, etc. One of the contests happens to be a Guitar Hero score competition... with an Xbox 360 and a GH game (not sure which one) as the prize for the person with the highest score at the end of the night. I haven't so much as touched any of the Guitar Hero games for at least 8 months, as I find it hard to go back to GH after playing Rockband. But yeah. A free 360 would be nice, so I have a couple questions:
1. Is the scoring system the same for all GH games? I don't know which one I'll be playing at the party, and I hope it doesn't make too much of a difference.
2. Is the highest possible score the same for any song played on expert? Or do songs with more notes yield higher scores? Obviously if I can get the same score playing a nubby song on expert as playing TTFAF, I'm gonna go for the nubby song.
3. I know that it's better to use Star Power in some parts of the song compared to others... can someone point me to a site that has this info?
Any help is much appreciated.
1. I'm almost positive Guitar Hero 1 and 2+Rock the '80s had a different scoring system than the ones succeeding them. Just different point values, and that's it.
2. Songs with more notes will yield higher scores; however, you described the multiplayer all wrong; this also applies to Rock Band: for an example, one of my full combo 100%s in Stephen Colbert's "Charlene" nets me about in the high 30Ks, and yet a full combo 100%ed "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters will net me about 250K; or in the case of Guitar Hero II, I've gotten maybe in the high 80%s-low 90%s for "Free Bird" to make about 300K and yet a 100% in the Foo Fighter's "Monkey Wrench" also earned me about 300K. The way it works is in all competitive modes: Face-Off (where you almost alternate parts in the song to play in), Pro Face-Off (where you both play the full song), and Battle mode (introduced in Guitar Hero 3 and I believe it showed up in most of the later installments, I'm almost positive I saw it in the Metallica game), you're both playing the same song at the same time.
3. Try listening to some of the songs; or if you're totally learning them a new, try to predict a break in the music. Avoid deploying star power in a spot where you have no notes or when you know you're going to hit a point in the song when you know at some point there will be no notes in the song to make the most use out of it. Also, be sure you can maintain your combo in the point to be know the multiplication of "2x" to your current multiplier has full efficiency; in other words, making sure you can hit all the notes to keep onto an "8x" multiplier during when you have Star Power deployed. I'll have you note that chords score higher than single notes; usually, I'm prone to deploy star power in points in the music where it's just straightforward continuing chords that I know I can maintain an 8x multiplier in.
