Well, that's what Nintendo's calling the audience that they are in fact ignoring and driving away, no matter how much they claim to be supporting them still.
(I personally hate the term and think it's used very incorrectly myself. Hardcore should refer more to games like Ninja Gaiden, Contra, and R-type where they're just bloody hard, rather than just mainstream stuff and popular competitive games).
