Some of the plot points are fairly lame:

Why would they outlaw immortality? Did it just take a lot to obtain it, or did you have to hurt others to obtain it? It seems like immortality could be useful, why give an immortal the cold shoulder?

Well even as Asia explains herself, her immortality is probably due to interacting with someone outside of Zipangu, and not from her magic research or anything like that. The other people in Zipangu, who by this method would be the only ones capable of attaining immortality, are following the book's paths for them. Since Asia was erased once she started being immortal, it's logical that would happen with everyone. If everyone in the book gets erased, there is no more book, so Zipangu's destroyed anyway.
